I have just spent a full semester at the University of British Columbia Okanagan in Kelowna and I can honestly say it has been the most amazing 6 months of my life! Initially I was only going to stay for one semester, but I have loved it here so much that I have extended my stay for another 6 months.

Kelowna is a beautiful small city, which has made the transition from Australia to Canada extremely easy. I have made some amazing friends, all of whom I know will be in my life for a very long time.  My friends and their families have taken me in and showed me the “Canadian” way of life and I will forever be grateful for their kindness and generosity. Kelowna has everything you could possibly dream of in choosing your dream Canadian exchange destination. Great mountains for skiing and snowboarding, shopping, fresh fruit, vineyards, beautiful hiking trails and the list goes on! I initially wanted to spend my second semester at the Vancouver campus, but am glad that I didn’t as Kelowna is only a few hours on the bus from Vancouver and I feel more at home in Kelowna.

I spent my first semester living on-campus at a residence called “Cassiar”. Here I met some amazing people who helped me find my way around campus. Next semester I am moving out with a good friend of mine that I made here in Canada and we will be renting a place together. I would recommend that everyone spend their first semester living on-campus, as it is the easiest way to meet people and find your way around. Not many Australian exchange students choose Kelowna as their host institution, because it is a smaller campus, but I am so happy I chose UBCO because it has been the most amazing experience.
